Leather is not a static material; it is a second skin that breathes, ages, and bears the memory of every vow. To understand its language—the difference between tanning methods, the ritual of conditioning—is the first step in honoring the history it will share with you.
Leather is the soul of Vessel & Vow. It ages, it softens, it molds to the body and the story it becomes a part of. Treating it with respect is a non-negotiable part of our philosophy.
Not all leather is created equal.
- Top-Grain / Full-Grain Leather: This is the highest quality. It possesses the original surface grain, making it incredibly strong, durable, and capable of developing a beautiful patina over time. All core instruments from The Sovereign Collection are forged from this.
- PU Leather / “Vegan Leather”: A plastic (polyurethane) coating on a fabric base. While it serves a cosmetic purpose and is animal-free, it lacks the durability, breathability, and aging potential of real leather. It is a costume, not a second skin.
Your instruments are investments. Their care is part of the ritual.
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down your leather gear with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove sweat and bodily fluids. Never saturate the leather. For a deeper clean, use a dedicated leather soap (like saddle soap), but use it sparingly.
- Conditioning (The Blessing): Every few months, or whenever the leather feels dry, it must be conditioned. Apply a high-quality leather conditioner or balm with a soft cloth in circular motions. Let it absorb for several hours, then buff off any excess. This replenishes the natural oils, keeping it supple and preventing cracks.
- Storage: Store your leather gear in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Hang it or lay it flat to maintain its shape. Store in a breathable cloth bag, never in plastic, which traps moisture and can cause mildew.
